The inspiration to bless and give thanks for the Earth is the inspiration to bless and give thanks for God’s presence in everything, including each person and all of Creation on Earth. This is reflected in the following passages from the Sikh Holy Book, who we honor as a Living Teacher, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, as given from random readings at the Golden Temple of Amritsar.
"God, the Cherisher of the world . . . ." -- Guru Nanak, Sorath, Fifh Mehl, p. 617
"The Lord cherishes all beings and creatures....He continually takes care of them." -- Guru Nanak, Sorath, Fifth Mehl, First House, Ashtapadees, p. 639
"He is the One God, abiding within all. Through the Guru’s Teachings, He is revealed in the heart." -- Guru Nanak, Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl, Second House, Chau-Padas, p. 663.
"In the bowl of the sky, the sun and moon are the lamps; the stars in the constellations are the pearls. The fragrance of sandalwood is the incense, the wind is the fan, and all the vegetation are flowers in offering to You, O Luminous Lord.... The Divine Light is within everyone; You are that Light. Yours is that Light which shines within everyone....Bless Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, with the water of Your Mercy, that he may come to dwell in Your Name." – Guru Nanak, Dhanaasaree, First Mehl, Aartee, p. 663
"The Lord says, This creation and I are one and the same." -- Naam Dayv Jee, Dhanaasaree, p. 693
"God, who expanded His expanse, is within all; I learned this from the True Guru. I am a friend to all; I am everyone’s friend. When the sense of separation was removed from my mind, then I was united with the Lord, my King....He is pervading everywhere, in the water, on the land and in the sky; Nanak beholds the all-pervading Lord." -- Guru Nannak, SGGs, Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl, p. 671
"Whatever is seen, is Your form, O treasure of virtue, O Lord of the Universe, O Lord of incomparable beauty." -- Guru Nanak, Tilang, Second House, Fifth Mehl, p. 723
"O Creator Lord . . . You are ever-present in every presence, within and before me. You are the river of life, You are the Giver of all." -- Naam Dayv Jee, p. 727
"God is permeating the hearts of each and every being." -- Guru Nanak, Soohee, Fifth Mehl, p. 747
"The perfect Lord has fashioned the Perfect Creation. Behold the Lord God pervading everywhere." -- Guru Nanak, Bilaaval, Third Mehl, p. 797
Note: These passages from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib are a collection of recent daily Hukamnamas from the Golden Temple in Amritsar that relate to our Mother Earth, as recorded by my dear friend Robert Brothers.
Robert Brothers wrote me saying, "Sat Nam Guru Prem ji, You have really got me inspired! Today I came in to the house from my meditations and prayers on the cliff above
the river...flowing it's unique color of turquoise (white blue green) that
it does with snowmelt after rains...and read this passage from today's
Hukam:
'O
Creator Lord....You are ever-present in every presence, within and before me.
|| 1 || You are the river of life, You are the Giver of all.' --Naam Dayv Jee, SGGS p. 727
This inspirted me to look up my notes of all the passages from SGGS that speak about the Earth. I have edited them and include them as an attachment. I thought they would be good to include in the section of your website under "Blessing the Earth."
