Mool Mantra Explained

The Mool Mantra, which contains the words of Guru Nanak from Japji Sahib, is found at the very beginning of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, the living Guru of the Sikhs. Yogi Bhajan claimed that Japji summerizes the entire Siri Guru Granth Sahib, its first words, Mool Mantra, fully contain its meaning and EK, "One" represents the Siri Guru Granth Sahib in essence and totality. Recitation of Mool Mantra clears the way for spiritual growth.

EK ONGKAR, SAT NAAM
KARTA PURKH, NIRBHAO, NIRVAIR
AKAAL MOORAT, AJOONEE, SAIBUNG
GURPRASAAD
JAAP
AAD SUCH, JUGAAD SUCH, HAIBHEE SUCH
NAANAK HOSEE BEE SUCH

EK - Come out of duality through the power of your divinity to Oneness;

ONGKAAR - See, sense and experience the Creator through all aspects of His creation

SAT NAM - Sat Nam is the sound of the breath--SAT the inhale, NAM the exhale. The word for breathing, as in "expiration," comes from an ancient word meaning "spirit." You can use your breath to subtly, consciously merge with the Gurus, with God. On SAT NAM feel your breath to be God's Identity within you.

KARTA PURKH - Experience and sense the reality of God working through everything and everybody.

NIR BHAO - Do so fearlessly.

NIR VAIR - With total forgiveness for every perceived wrong ever done to you.

AKAL MOORAT - Be So! AKAL means undying, the state of pure spirit. MOORAT means a statue. Akal Moorat is the physical representation of Akal, just as you are the physical representation of your own undying spirit, of God. To fully realize it, consciously go through the steps leading to Akal Moorat in Mool Mantra.

AJOONEE – Unborn—your spirit has no beginning and no end.

SAIBUNG – Self-existent, known from self-initiation through self-realization.

GUR PRASAD – Through the grace of Guru’s sacred technology

JAAP – Chant! (the only direct command in the entire Siri Guru Granth Sahib)

AAD SUCH – True in the beginning

JUGAAD SUCH – True through the ages

HAIBEE SUCH – True NOW!

NAANAK HOSEE BEE SUCH – Nanak, the enlightener, says Truth will live forever.

NOTE: Emphasizing SUCH by extending CH in a whisper brings realization of Truth.
