To the Creator, I bow. To the Invisible Dispeller of Darkness within me, I bow.
Ong means "Creator" Namo means "I bow" Guru is the "Dispeller of Darkness" Dev means "God-like, Invisible, within you" Your intimate guide in perfecting
Kundalini yoga.
When you bow to both You bow to God's vastness As well
as God awareness within you, The Infinite and the finite. Mantras with
this fluctuation Are the most powerful of all mantras.
Mantras that use
forms of the word "Namo," Act as ladders to higher consciousness, With
each repetition being a rung. The more you humble yourself to the
divine, The more subtly you approach Divine Awareness.
Ong Namo Guru Deve Namo is chanted three times before beginning a personal yoga practice or Kundalini Yoga class as taught by Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini Yoga. Chanting it gives protection, guidance from your inner teacher and attunement to your higher will. The sounds of the mantra resonate in the three chambers of the body—the head, the chest and the abdomen. Within these chambers are the glands and organs governing bodily funtions and setting the blood chemistry, controlling one’s moods. When properly resonated, the chant awakens all three of these chambers to profoundly experience the effects of yoga and meditation.
ONG is entirely nasal. The sound vibrates the upper palate of the mouth, the hypothalamus gland, pituitary gland, nasal passages and the entire head chamber. This resonance evokes a subtle awareness of the higher realms of awareness.
NAMO is abdominal. The two consonants, “N” and “M” close off the front of the mouth and force the cylinder of vibrating air down the esophagus into the abdomen. This resonance evokes obeisance in the abdominal chamber to our source of personal power.
GURU is vibrated in the heart, the chest chamber. Both “G”and “R” (similar to the Spanish “rolled ‘r’ ”), are sounds that shoot out like a cannon from the chest and lungs. “GU” is the vast darkness and “RU”, chanted with an extended “OO”, is the radiance of infinite light that emanates from it. Peolple have been called gurus for their ability to restore the light of Truth under the darkest of scenarios.
DEV resonates through the throat and into the nasal passages. The throat center and its power of understanding connect to the vast knowledge of the third eye, the pituitary gland, where understanding and divine knowledge merge, forming God-like wisdom—the nature of your invisible inner teacher.
